Nanny Resource
Our specialist payroll assistants understand that you might have questions about holiday allowance, payslips, taxes, furlough or anything related to your position as an employer or employee. It’s here where Little Ones Payroll will help to answer all of your questions. Our main goal is to provide a premium service to every person who reaches out to us.
Disagreement between employer and employee
If you are in a position as an employer or employee where you have a disagreement in employment, the first document that we advise you to check is the contract of employment. It is really important to make sure a contract is signed before the employment starts. This is the main document that will hold responsibilities, obligations and rights of the employee and employer.
If the misunderstanding needs the intervention of a third person, you can get in touch with the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS), which specialise in mediation between employers and employees.
Another Association from which you can obtain help is the British Association for Professional Nannies, which is a non-profit organisation focused on helping nannies who work in the UK.
If you are currently working with a family as their nanny, housekeeper, nanny-housekeeper or as any private domestic staff, the family with whom you are working will be your employers, so we cannot represent or inter-communicate with you regarding the PAYE account, as this includes legal documentation.
Once you have asked your employer about the doubt you have about your payslip, and they don’t know the answer to your question, they can contact us, and we will help you. Would you like to talk with any of our expert payroll assistants? Contact us on 020 7183 0309.
Holiday
Almost all employees, including nannies, housekeepers and domestic staff have the right to the statutory amount of paid annual leave, in other words, the minimum legal holiday entitlement. This should be included in the nanny’s contract of employment, which should be provided before the placement with the family commences. The nanny’s holiday entitlement will vary depending on the number of days an employee works. Nannies will accrue holidays from the first day of work. This includes during the probationary period, sick leave or paternity and maternity leave.
The Little Ones Payroll team is on hand to answer any and all questions relating to your nanny or other employee holiday allowance.
HMRC Queries
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs is a non-ministerial department of the UK Government, responsible for the collection of taxes, the payment of some forms of state support and the administration of other regulatory regimes, including the national minimum wage and the issuance of National Insurance numbers. Every employee in the UK has is obliged to be registered with the HMRC.
Our payroll assistants will happily answer all your questions about benefits, like pension and tax-free benefits and other legal documentation. It’s important to keep your job details updated, so your tax and pension are up to date. Please talk with your employer if the employment will come to an end, so this can be updated on time.
If your employer has received a penalty letter from HMRC, and they are registered with us, we advise you to ask them to send us the letter, so that our expert assistants will do their best to help you to contact HMRC to know more about the penalty. Every legal and government-related matter should be addressed on time to avoid unwanted penalties. HRMC is reported to charge a fine to employers who don’t pay their nanny’s or housekeeper’s PAYE amount and National insurance contribution in full and on time.
Employing a nanny, housekeeper or private domestic staff for the first time?
When you employ a nanny or any household staff, specific responsibilities come with this action. Unfortunately, most families don’t have a clear idea of what these responsibilities entail; below, you will find a résumé of each of the duties you will take on when you hire a nanny or household staff. It’s important to highlight that they apply not only to a nanny’s employment but also to the hire of all forms of domestic staff.
It’s important to:
● Check that your future employee has the right to work in the UK.
● Interview face-to-face with your future employee to check CV and work history as references.
● Agree on the salary between your future employee and you.
● Have contract employment in place.
● Make sure that once you have hired your nanny or housekeeper, you will provide them with a weekly or monthly payslip where they can check their salary, pension and tax contributions.
