Finding and hiring a Nanny has never been easy as parents want the best of the best for their children. Parents want to be at peace when they go to work, knowing that their children are at home safe and sound.

Let’s talk about the different salary levels that exist within the domestic staff sector. Nannies and Governess salaries are dependent, as in any industry, on a number of factors. In the UK, demand for skilled, experienced nanny candidates outranks availability. For this reason, an experienced, talented nanny may demand a wage as high as £25 per hour.

Variables that contribute to the salary range include:

●  Location – London has a higher demand for experienced nannies than the home counties, although educated and skilled nannies candidates are rarer in rural locations so London, rural and overseas positions to areas such as the Middle East, Russia Africa, China and South America, command higher salaries from nannies.
●  Skills – bilingual speaking candidates experienced in teaching an additional language or a nanny who could assist with the learning of a musical instrument such as violin, may command a higher salary. Perfectly fluent English speakers command higher salaries outside of the UK.
●  Experience – As with any industry whether banking, finance, law, education, the more experience a candidate has the higher their salary expectations. A nanny with 10 years’ experience will command a higher salary than a nanny with 2 years’ experience.
● Education – Qualifications demonstrate a nanny’s professionalism. A nanny with a Bachelor of Education or OCN Level 4 qualification may expect a higher salary than a nanny who has not sought to gain a qualification in their vocational field.
● Hours and degree of flexibility – If your role is part-time and offers only a few hours in the afternoon or requires a great deal of flexibility which prevents a nanny from obtaining another part-time role, the salary requested may be higher to accommodate a nanny’s living costs.
Below is a guideline of salary expectations in keeping with market rates, based on the expected salaries of nannies and governesses with between 1-20 years of experience.

Your Little Ones Payroll assistants are able to advise the salary expectations for your individual cases.
Please note – these salaries and hourly rates are heavily dependent on the employer’s specific requirements, working hours, location, benefits, ages and number of children, expectations of the candidates (years of experience, qualifications, skills such as languages).
